This year's Rotary Gala was one for the history books. A week-long visit of District Governor David Kirkaldy ended with an amazing gathering of the BVI Rotary family and a great platform to promote the foundation. One key note from DG David's address to the attendees was that each donation to the foundation makes a difference across the globe. Foundation Matters!
The BVI Rotary family gathered at Treasurer Isle Hotel for the culmination of the district governor, David Kirkaldy's visit to the Territory. The weeklong visit of DG David culminated with this dinner, however, the BVI Rotary family had a unique perspective as we saw Rotary from the eyes of the DG. One instance that stuck with us was the story of the DG David's visit to Jamaica. He spoke passionately about how each commitment to the Rotary Foundation makes us all benefactors of all foundation-related projects throughout the district and the world. This gave new meaning to the foundation for us, as we realized that our impact is beyond the projects we can see in our region.
Highlights from the evening included the induction of five (5) new honorees as Paul Harris Fellows for their devotion, impact and expertise to the community in their areas of expertise. The nominated PHFs from our club were Mr. Milton McLean and Mr. Jason Edwin. Both men have significantly impacted the lives of young men and women in the territory through their vocation as teachers, coaches, and mentors.
We also enjoyed a rather peculiar fundraising experience as the Sargeant at Arms, President Storm, turned fines into a pop quiz, and we auctioned off some amazing prizes including the presidents of the Rotary Clubs of the BVI. We extend a special thank you to the foundation team, District Governor, David Kirkaldy his beautiful wife, and the BVI Rotary family.
