FINAL MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT

Dear Rotarians,

Rotary or any other organization is only as good as the persons supporting the goals. With the diversity of Rotary it is easy to be involved for there are so many areas of interest and concern. This final weekly message from me as your Charter President is to thank you for your local and international support of Rotary.

In February 2009, we elected the Charter Board Members which I believe consisted of a group of exceptional strong leaders in the BVI Community; and I believed they would certainly make my task as President lighter than one would expect; we've had a few changes on the Board throughout the year but I feel the Leadership of this Club for 2009 - 2010 did an outstanding job. I am extremely proud to be an active member of this club and to have served on the 2009 - 2010 Board.

I like to describe myself as a driven personality and the Rotary value of service above self and the fellowship of the club have rewarded me in many ways.  Each of The directors for 2009-2010 had created individual goals and objectives for their committees and several common themes that they worked towards; each of them has prepared their reports of their achievements for our Change Over Dinner on June 18th. In addition, one of my most important values that I have stressed for the past year was for fun and friendship through leadership and contribution by our board and with the help of the entire membership.

On March 31, 2009 we were chartered with 23 members, today, June 15, 2010 we have 34 members recorded, great job by our Membership Director. Yes, we have lost some as "active members" along the way, but despite that we have enjoyed an outstanding year as a new Rotary Club. We have had FUN, and we have definitely enjoyed Fellowship along the way.

We still have some prospective members that were not able to be inducted before the end of this Rotary Year, but I'm sure we'll make that right early in the 2010-2011 Year.

With creative and bold fund raising and your best efforts we have enjoyed an interesting year; difficult, because as a new club the funds are not there to do all the things we would like to do; but we made it work. Our Public Relations team (Past Charter Sec. Christy, Dir. Alan & Rtn. Angela) certainly worked to position us in the media from day one; their efforts bore fruits with the club gaining high visibility in the community - we definitely enjoyed a positive public image throughout the year, Kudos to our PR Committee.

I could go on and list the many Projects, Fundraisers and Community Events that we have been involved with; but I'm doing that for our Change Over Dinner Book and don't want to run the risk of repeating myself. Please attend our Change Over Dinner on June 18th and show your support for the Incoming Board.

I do want to once again thank all of you for being a part of the Rotary Foundation Sustaining Member Program; we are a 100% Sustaining Member Club; give yourselves a big pat on the back, thank you, thank you, thank you!

Two Community Projects that are very dear to my heart which we did not have the opportunity to complete this year are the permanent water (we have put in a temporary solution) supply for the Bregado Flax School and the set up of the Virgin Gorda Library which we have adopted. Rtn. Shana spearheaded the collection of books, with over 2,000 books being collected during Literacy Month, well done Rtn. Shana, but there is still a lot of work to be done to get the Library opened. I would hope that the new board will continue to work on these projects.

RI President John Kenny said "There is so much we can do as Rotarians that will mean so much to others. And as important as it is to give material assistance - to help in the areas of water, health and hunger, and literacy - it is equally vital that we give that help freely, with true caring for others. Because often, simply caring is what helps others most of all", as this Rotary year and my Presidency come to a close, I thank you all for your Service to Rotary Club Sunrise and for your support; without you it would not have been possible. I am honoured to have been given the opportunity to serve as your Charter President.

This began as a Thank You and it concludes that way. We are Rotary. What we do matters to many people. Thank you, the members, for your commitments.

Good luck to Incoming President Ken and his outstanding Board Members!

May I remind you that,

The Future of Rotary is in Your Hands ,
