Members of Rotary Club Sunrise of Road Town held its weekly breakfast meeting this morning at Maria’s By The Sea.

The meeting was attended by its members, visiting Rotarians and friends of Rotarians.

 

The guest speaker was Sergeant Anthony Smith of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force.

The guest speaker was Sergeant Anthony Smith of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force.  Sergeant Smith told the meeting that “Crime Stoppers BVI” was officially launched on

Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at Myett’s in Cane Garden Bay.

  

Sergeant Smith went on to tell the meeting that “Crime Stoppers BVI” is an independent charity working to reduce crime in the territory and to make the community feel safe.

 

In his presentation Sergeant Smith encouraged the public to call with any information and tips concerning crime and criminal activities to 800-8477 (TIPS).

 

He went on to assure the meeting that all calls are answered in an independent overseas call centre and are untraceable, anonymous, confidential and free.

 

He also informed the meeting that information on crime tips can be provided online anonymously and confidentially via crimestoppersbvi.com.

 

Sergeant Smith gave some statistics about areas in the Caribbean, Bermuda and Latin America where arrests were made, drugs seized and property recovered through the benefit of “Crime Stoppers”.

 

His presentation was followed by a brief question and answer period.

 

The meeting ended with the Sergeant –At-Arms giving out fines liberally and raised funds for the club.
