Saturday 26th January saw members of The Rotary Sunrise Service Club, family, friends and members of the press walk for peace in their communities, Territory, Region and beyond. “The month of January is designated (Rotary Awareness Month) and Rotary Sunrise has focused all it’s resources on informing members of our community what Rotary means and how Rotary support many humanitarian initiatives throughout the world” said Rotary Sunrise Public Relations Director Ken Guiste. The walk started at 7.30am at the Road Town roundabout and saw 32 yellow clad participants walk briskly up to the Pasea roundabout before returning back to town. Police Information Officer Diane Drayton was also on the walk and took the time both before the walk and on completion of the two mile event to educate the attendees as to the current firearm amnesty which comes to an end on the 31st January; with guns off the street we will have some form of peace said Ms Dianne Drayton. Participants were also given posters to put up at their places of employment. Other initiatives that Rotary Sunrise have been involved with during January and have planned are Wear your Rotary Pin and Tell a Friend about Rotary, present Rotary bottles to the residents of the Rainbow Children’s Home, Launch Rotary Awareness Questions on their Facebook page and the launch of a Rotary Sunrise newsletter.
