All About the Flax Family

We were fortunate to have four members of the Flax family address us. Dir Marvin Flax ably gave the hospitality report. Director of Membership, Rtn Allison Flax-Archer gave a brief overview of her plans for the remainder of the Rotary year and specifically what the club is doing this month to satisfy the requirements for Club of the Month. She also circulated Sunrise's impressive Membership brochure which will be disseminated to new and prospective members. Those present all confirmed their intention to fully support Dir Allison's plans for Membership. Excellent work! Rtn Rosemarie Flax confidently and comprehensively provided an update on DG Diana's visit to the BVI next week. Rtn Rosemarie also outlined DG Diana's schedule for the week, especially highlighting her anticipated visit to our weekly meeting on the 23 August, 2010. Last, but by no means least, was Rtn Annjel Flax-Solomon who gave the feature vocational talk in her usual relaxed and descriptive manner.

After Rtn Annjel's talk we now know that she enjoyed living in Barbados at a tender age (although no specific fond memories were provided.. much to the disappointment of this Barbadian author.. Smiles), that she was once considered as an Honorary Bahamian, that she has extensive experience in both the Corporate and Legal Sectors in the BVI and that she finds Politics and not Political Science sexy! Yes, the last revelation took some explanation and who knows. a future political career may be on the cards. Rtn Annjel's vocational talk was well received and she was enthusiastically applauded by Sunrise's members and friends for her efforts. Good job!

Acting SAA takes control

Assistant Secretary Omonike on debut gave a commanding performance as acting SAA. It included modeling, jokes and needless to say we were entertained by her precise observations, wit and humour. Absolutely no one escaped the fining reach of the Acting SAA and to ensure that her income generating mandate was reached, we were put to the impromptu quiz on the content of Rtn Annjel's vocational talk. Although at the end of the meeting we were all left with lighter pockets, our spirits were heavy with energy to continue our respective days.

Come join us next week as we have more fun and fellowship! You can also meet and mingle with DG Diana as she makes her first visit to a weekly meeting of a BVI Rotary Club in her official capacity as District Governor.
